Operations:

North East Newspapers is a family owned news and information company based at Wangaratta, Victoria, with offices at Myrtleford, Mansfield and Surrey Hills in Melbourne. The company is also involved in related businesses with offices in Healesville, Yarra Junction, Monbulk and Laverton North.


Newspapers:

North East Newspapers remains an independent family owned newspaper company operating in leading towns in north east Victoria. The company also has two specialist regional real estate newspapers and a regional Motor Guide in north east Victoria. In addition it produces a number of niche tourism and farming titles. North East Newspapers owns 50% of the Mail Newspaper Group, a partnership with Star News Group comprising four community newspaper mastheads based in the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges. The Mail Newspaper Group has offices in Healesville, Monbulk and Yarra Junction, Victoria and also produces a quarterly tourist publication.


Printing:

North East Newspapers publications are printed at the company’s North East Web Printers plant in Wangaratta. The Goss Community web press comprises three towers and four single units. The company through the Mail Newspaper Group has an interest in Fermax which is Victoria’s largest independent letterbox distributor.


Magazines:

Associated Provincial Press Group companies publish specialist journals and magazines to the wine, viticulture, olives, forests and timber industries from our Adelaide and Melbourne offices.

History:

North East Newspapers was founded by WT Higgins when he purchased The Wangaratta Despatch in 1921 and Wangaratta Chronicle in 1937. The company is still owned by the Higgins family and managed by Edward Higgins, a fourth generation family member. There are over 60 people employed directly in the north east and another 50 by associated Provincial Press Group companies. Sponsorship and media support of communities and events are part of our business aims.
