Youth awards recognise young talent
MORE than 130 people celebrated the great achievements of Alpine youth at the Youth Council Youth Awards night on Friday, October 17.
Council’s manager community services, Trevor Britten, said the evening showcased all the areas where young people in the shire excel.
"Congratulations go to all the young people nominated for awards and to the Youth Council for organising and delivering a great night," he said.
The awards were divided into several sections, all of which had several categories.
The academic awards went to the Myrtleford Secondary College Tournament of Minds Team and Alex Barker.
The arts prizes were awarded to Claire Pederick, the Mount Beauty Year 10 Drama Group, Vincent O’Keefe and Melissa Prince.
Kat Chalwell, Kate Jackson and Julian Bau took out the employee awards.
Kaelah Gasparotti, Jacqueline Martyn and the Myrtleford Music Factory were recognised in the Community Involvement section and the Sports awards went to the Myrtleford Alpine Racing Team, Bright P-12 Interschool Gymnastics Team, David Clarkson and Penny Pascoe.
Mr Britten also thanked the various sponsors for the prizes.
"It is wonderful to have this type of support from local business for our youth," he said.
