Fun Run kicking goals

ALL ABOARD: Alpine Chiropractic’s Eon Scott with Tamsin Coles and the team from TTT Fitness.

THE 2012 CVGT Australia Wangaratta Fun Run is kicking goals with even more sponsors coming on board for specific community events.

After the recent signing of DoyleTimms as sponsor of the primary kids challenge school prize, the event has now secured major sponsorship from Alpine Chiropractic.

"We feel very privileged," event co-organiser Sharon Scholz said.

"We are excited about the new sponsorship from Alpine Chiropractic and the community team award that it will provide.

"Providing fitness opportunities that are fun and inclusive must help in some small way to improve the wellbeing of our community.

"Being able to make a meaningful contribution to our young citizens through the Little Athletics Club hopefully supports a future that has less obesity and a greater focus on personal wellbeing."

While the format of the fun run has been something of a work in progress, Scholz said the structure of the event, which will be staged on Sunday, February 26, was now finalised.

"This is the last addition to the program for 2012," she said.

"We now have what we feel is a fantastic range of events for everyone and a range of prizes and incentives that gives everyone a chance.

"The primary schools are well catered for, the faster runners have a wonderful prize pool and now we have an award that encourages participation without entrants having to feel like they need to achieve record times.

"The mix feels just about right."

The community team challenge is a participation only award.

The prize is a catered social event for the winning team up to $500 in value and will go to the team that secures the most combined finishers from the 5km and 10km events.

Entrants can nominate for one team only.

Alpine Chiropractic principal Eon Scott said the prize was there to encourage everyone to have a go.

"The Scholzs made it clear that the fun run wasn’t just about fast times and winning but mainly about participation," Scott said.

"Sharon and Justin have improved their physical and mental wellbeing since they started running and so they are keen to encourage everyone to participate.

"This award is simple - get your workplace or club to enter as many people into either the 5km or 10km event as possible and the team with the greatest number of finishers wins."

Scholz said there was an added benefit for the winning team.

"Eon and I will personally cook a barbecue and serve food and drinks at the winning team’s function," she said.

"And knowing Eon’s focus on encouraging better food choices, it will be a bit better than your standard sausages in bread.

"I think the winning team will be in for a real treat."

Already the teams are lining up with Tamsin Coles from TTT Fitness looking to enter the bulk of her members in the run.

"My girls seem keen so I’m going to try to get as many of them to start as I can," Coles said.

"And I’m talking about a group of 50 here so maybe we can have the numbers required to put us in the running for the prize.

"There are some pretty big workplaces and clubs out there, but we, being fitness focused, already have a head start I think.

"Of course the main thing is the challenge of doing the event, but there’s nothing wrong with winning a prize along the way."

All the details of each event and the rules regarding the community team challenge and the primary kids challenge are on the website at www.wangarattafunrun.com.au.
