WHEN 10-year old Holli Waite found her mother unconscious on the floor of the family’s home on October 28, she didn’t panic.
After trying to contact her grandmother, she dialled 000, and Ambulance Victoria Wangaratta OpCen call-taker Christine Sewell answered.
Ms Sewell, who has worked in emergency services communications for more than 20 years, was impressed by the Myrtleford girl’s calm demeanor over the phone.
"She must have been frightened, but the thing that struck me was that she was so in control," she said.
"She was courteous, she never got agitated and she was able to answer all the questions I asked.
"She even described the paddocks around her to help our paramedics find the address."
Holli is humble about her heroics and said her younger sister Billie-Lee Waite and cousin Dallas Woods were a big help.
"They helped me figure out what to do," she said.
"Dallas had to go out to the front gate so the ambulance would know where our house was, and I asked Billie-Lee to tie up the dogs."
Ms Sewell remained on the line until paramedics arrived to treat Holli’s mother, Laura Stephens.
Ms Stephens, who was in hospital for four days after the incident, said she couldn’t be prouder of the kids’ efforts.
"They’re my little heroes," she said.
