PROUD WINNERS: Mansfield band Uprising members Thomas Alcaniz, Jayden Reid, Kelby Hughes and Cody Shields with their award for ‘Best Rock Band’ at the 2009 Kool Skools awards.
ANOTHER group of talented musicians from the Mansfield Secondary College will head to Melbourne to record the school’s second annual CD with the ‘Kool Skools’ program next month.
The group of students will get to record in Studio 52, a professional recording studio in the city.
Kool Skools is a great opportunity for young secondary level students to record in a studio and have access to professional equipment and instruments.
It is an exciting recording and multimedia project for all students involved.
Students who took advantage of the great opportunity last year enjoyed the trip and it was a huge success.
Last year, band ‘Uprising’ recorded a number of songs on the school album and won the award for ‘Best state rock band’ out of all the participants around Victoria.
They were also nominated for a second category.
The awards nights are modelled on the ‘ARIA Awards’ with famous bands, artists and well-known industry personalities reading out the nominations and presenting the awards.
Among the 40 acts chosen from across Victoria, Uprising was one of the few chosen to play live in front of a huge audience.
As well as the musical side of the program, Kool Skools also gives opportunities for students to get involved in video, photography, the CD artwork and the whole multimedia process.
Annie Lawry from Mansfield Secondary College last year also won an award on the night for her design of the school CD artwork.
Some 500 music albums are made for every school and this year’s CDs will be sold through the college’s front office.
