Euroa holds the box seat, as feeble Delatite only makes 44
Written by By DAVID FOSTER.
IN the Cleary Shield contest at the Lords Reserve between Delatite and ladder leaders Euroa, the home team made a magnificent beginning, blasting the visitors out for 94.
Peter Scales was on fire, as he razored through Euroa’s line up.
Despite bowling on a well prepared and behaved pitch, he was just too hot to handle and powered to 6/35 from 15 overs.
Offering top-line backup were Joe Cousins 2/14, Ken Cousins 1/5 and Daniel Walker 1/24.
Delatite’s fielders were in fine fettle, as they clutched catch after catch and the ground fielding was exemplary.
For Euroa, top scorer was Andrew Squires with 29, followed up by Tim Jackson 18 and Rick Maplestone 10.
Smarting as a result of its lowest total in both home and away and Twenty20 competitions for the season, Euroa swung into vengeful action.
Despite holding out for nearly 31 overs, Delatite was demolished for a paltry 44.
Only Steve Kelly and Peter Scales each with 11 provided any resistance.
Brad Gleeson for Euroa was virtually unplayable taking 5/8 from nine overs.
Ben Milliken 2/16 and Nick Thomson 1/14 picked up the other wickets.
The match resumes on Saturday when Euroa will almost inevitably press for outright points.
