THE sun shone at the Bonnie Doon Recreation Reserve as Bonnie Doon took on Whorouly in the clash of the round, but the sun didn’t shine on the Dogs who fell to a 36 point loss.
The Dogs welcomed back Josh Darby and Simon Powell in Al Kilgour’s 100th game.
The Lions had the better of the Dogs despite the efforts of Kane Reid and Darren Wheeler.
In the first term the Lions mauled the Dogs, who didn’t give a yelp.
It was 10 minutes into the second quarter before Chris Anderson kicked Doon’s first goal to the relief of the large crowd.
Daniel Fletcher’s hard work was rewarded when Chris Dunne kicked Doon’s second goal in what was a much more even term.
A supreme effort by Doon was needed in the second half if they had any hope of wiping out the eight goal deficit.
Travis Scott was solid in defence and Judd Darby regained some run, but it was Whorouly handing out the football lesson.
Bonnie Doon continued to try hard and kicked the first two goals in the final term.
Finally they outplayed the visitors as Whorouly took the foot off the pedal.
The dismal first quarter was too much for Bonnie Doon to overcome.
However, the Dogs never gave up which was one positive for the day.
