THE Yackandandah Museum, which has been rebuilt from the ground up, will be officially opened at 2pm on Saturday, November 29.
On December 21, 2006 the 1860s stone Bank of Victoria building was gutted by fire.
It was part of the buildings owned and operated by Yackandandah and District Historical Society since 1969 as a museum.
The building’s interior, complete with many original banking furnishings, fittings and finishes, was destroyed.
Some collection objects were also destroyed or damaged, including a travelling exhibition on loan from museums of the Upper Murray.
The stored collection owned by the society was safe in a separate building.
Since then, the society and the community have worked to retrieve from the ashes, rebuild and refurbish the building and reinstate the interior as display spaces.
The official opening will be performed by Andy Muirhead, the presenter of the ABC ‘Collectors’ program.
He has followed the progress of the rebuild and has shown a keen interest.
A parade featuring The Wodonga Brass Band, the Chinese dragon from Bendigo, a local car club, a horse and cart, town crier and a penny farthing rider will also help open the museum.
They will be joined by local fire brigade, SES, Lions Club and school personnel.
An initiative of the society is to install grid-interactive solar electricity to power the new building.
This will also be turned on during the ceremony.
