FORMER Saints greats will be inducted into the club's newly created Hall of Fame this Saturday night, as the club hosts its inaugural function to honor those who made a major impact during their days.

Jim Matassoni was one of the seven members chosen for the MFNC hall of fame committee tasked with choosing the inaugural inductees to the Saints Hall of Fame.

Throughout the latter half of 2012, Matassoni was joined by Dennis Smith, Jim Smith, Ken Johnstone, Sandra Piazza, John McIlroy and MFNC representative Jill McNamara to sift through nominations

"I thought it was going to be an onerous sort of task and it was a very difficult exercise to do," Matassoni said.

A Saints player from 1950 through until 1957, Matassoni coached the thirds in the late 1960s, was treasurer for 11 years in the '70s and '80s and was a member on the executive committee overseeing the LG Ablett Pavilion construction.

Nominations were called for and over eight Hall Of Fame committee meetings the first six inductees were chosen and will be announced this Saturday night at the LG Ablett function centre.

In reaching their final decisions, the committee had to look at criteria and the nominees which could include people who have played, coached, umpired, volunteered, served as an administrator or office bearer or been a media representative for the MFNC.
