WANGARATTA'S public hospital will lose $8.7 million in health funding under planned cuts up until 2016.
The claim was delivered by Victorian Health Minister David Davis yesterday, hours before the Federal Budget was delivered last night.
Mr Davis continues to hold the Federal Government responsible for the cuts based on Victoria's population spread over local government areas.
He claims the Federal Government has cut health funding by $6.82 billion for the period 2010 to 2016, nationally - equating to $1.7 billion in Commonwealth cuts to the Victorian health system.
But Federal Health Minister, Tanya Plibersek, hit back yesterday and described his attack as "re-heating discredited political spin".
Ms Plibersek said the budget released last night shows an additional $1.2 billion in funding for Victorian hospitals.
She said the 2013-14 budget will show the Gillard Government is delivering a total of $16.2 billion in hospital funding over the next four years, going from $3.48 billion in 2013-14 to $4.67 billion in 2016-17.
