MBCE regroups to meet minister
Written by By ALEX BAIRD.
SINCE the State Government’s decision not to offer funding for the Mt Buffalo Chalet in November last year, the Mount Buffalo Community Enterprise (MBCE) group trying to restore the iconic building is yet to decide what the next step is in their quest.
A meeting with Minister for Environment and Climate Change Ryan Smith hasn’t been arranged for when he hopefully visits the area sometime this month but MBCE executive director Mark McKenzie-McHarg said the group would relish the chance to talk about the chalet’s future.
"Obviously if there’s an opportunity to meet and talk to the minister we’d take that up," he said.
Just before the decision was handed down nearly three months ago, the MBCE held its annual general meeting, which was the last time the group met together.
Mr McKenzie-McHarg said the group’s plans for the future will be discussed over the next month and until then there is no direction for MBCE.
"Since the minister’s advice regarding the submission of last November, Christmas was on us and nothing else really happened so we’ve got to regroup in the next month and work out what we’ve got to do and where we’re going to go with it," he said.
"I haven’t really got a sense of what that might be at the moment.
"The minister’s given us pretty clear advice as to where the government’s at and we’ve got to work out where we go, but we don’t have any preconceived views about what we might or might not do.
"Over the next month or so we’ve got to sit down and seriously think about where we go with it all."
